The DeLand Shoot'Em Up...

Recently, my photo brethren and I got together with some talented friends to take over downtown DeLand for a photo shoot featuring models from the area. It was an incredible success thanks to the hard work of the models (and their bountiful wardrobes) and our on-the-fly location scouting.

We've been busy as of late. To say we've been busy is an understatement really. But in every circumstance we've both made new friends and plenty of great business connections. Networking is important, even at the lowest rung of the ladder. We've still got several new shoots lined up in the coming weeks but the clouds are starting to clear (proverbially speaking). Now that we are starting to see our finished products, we can start posting them for all to see (all is a relative term since I think this blog is only read by one and a half people). So lets start off with BeachStock 2010. This took place a few weeks back at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. The band line up included a lot of bands I've never heard of, but clearly someone had. You'll probably recognize names like Filter and Chevelle, and we were happy to get some great shots of them too. So without further adieu, here are a few shots...I may have to break this into two posts.

I do wish that we had a bounty of beautiful images to shuffle along to the few friends of ours who check in on this website, but we are really busy getting our act together. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it, but while your busy doing that check out The Retreat at Bradley's Pond. It's a place up in Tallahassee where we are shooting a wedding next month. In other non-picture related news, Jason just received the light kit he ordered so we are now not just outdoor photography specialists. This really allows us to expand what we can offer and beef up our professional image. Expect some great shots, just not right away while we work out the kinks. Jason's interested in doing some stock photo shots, mostly commercial quality food stuff this coming weekend so hopefully we'll have something really neat to show up here soon. A New Year, Some Old Photo's...

The ending of one year and the beginning of another bring forth a certain degree of reflection in all of us. For photographers, it means looking back on all of the captured moments over the past 12 months. I've done that myself recently and found a few gems that I feel in hindsight may not have gotten a fair viewing. While we are busy accumulating a whole new crop of photos, please take a look at these shots from last year. And, before I forget, Happy New Year to everyone! De Land Alliterative Funk Experiment

Trying to sound too much like a 60's psychotrophic band name? Probably. This posts intention is to introduce you to De Land of whom you may or may not be familiar. Jason recently took me by this not so sleepy town north of Orlando for a photowalk. I was really blown away at how great the place was, and how many amazing photo opportunities presented themselves. Yes, there was an artsy, urban vibe that I have yet to find even in my nearby big cities (see my recent downtown Tampa post). I'm presenting this in two posts, because blogger tells me so, and because I don't want you to miss a picture.

Taking some time during the Thanksgiving holiday to take some fun urban shots around Tampa. Jason and I walked around an empty downtown trying to capture some of the true beauty that lurks just under the surface. A lot has changed down here since I was a kid, but some of that true grit, that stuff that makes great photographs, still exists. You just have to know where to look. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgivings! Enjoy the photos!

A Brave New World...for me anyway

Hoping mostly that the title for this blog isn't copyrighted or anything. Recently spent an amazing and humbling week in Illinois. It's a different world than the one I'm used to. Much of the earth here is crafted for use, the square plots of land give birth each year to crops of corn and soybean. The people here are cut from the great American cloth. It's the cloth that perhaps in other places has been washed and tattered a little more than here. Here the colors are bright and vivid, despite the landscape being so utilitarian and at times bleak. Contrasts such as these are surprising and wonderful if you allow them to touch and change you. These are the people and places of whom I speak of typically in past tense. But here they are alive, these good midwestern people of Illinois open their hearts to all and for that I am humbled.

The Light at the end of the room...

I know Jay and I have spent many of the past few weeks scouring over our photos, each in its own state of degradation, rehabilitation, and perhaps deletion. It's taken me over a week just to pull thirty photos together for a portfolio of potentially profitable pics. What I've found this past week is that I've learned a new trick! In looking over my photos, I've begun to see the potential of the photograph and gained a greater appreciation for the full-bodied love that Lightroom gives my pictures. I've turned a few mediocre thoughtless snaps into much better pictures - all by allowing myself to see what beyond the colors present. We'll hopefully start posting this stuff soon, I've just got to watermark these babies and then I can post them.

In a completely different direction, I completed a really neat idea from a photo project that I got off of... http://morethanwords.be/blog/look-ma-only-lightroom/.
Basically, its a mosaic that you can create in Lightroom using portrait or macro style shots. I put something together a few days ago, I hope you find it as nifty as I did.

Simple Progress...

New and wonderful things are happening over here at Simple Sight. We're dilligently working towards expanding our publicly viewable portfolios on the site. We're also pursuing several other avenues for bringing our work to the world. But talk is cheap and truthfully speaking, with the internet, the typed word has become even cheaper than the spoken one. What real progress have we made? For one, we are working on a much more innovative and beautiful site. Jay is especially hard at work trying to rework our digital abode. We've also got our foot in the door (proverbial, of course) at iStock. As well, we've expanded our reach with a newly purchased tent. I know what you're thinking, church revivals at Simple Sight? Well, not exaclty, though I am hoping for a sort of awakening/buying spree when people see our tent at art shows around Central Florida. We're going to start small, but have our sights set high (and simple, right?).
